Ibuka Justice follows Valentine and Jean-Claude, a new couple, at the very start of the civil war and massacres that swept through Rwanda in 1994. Living in Kigali, the national capital, these young parents make numerous attempts to escape the massacres with their newborn son. Ibuka Justice is a poetic work, full of gentleness and lucidity, about a historical tragedy experienced through the intimacy and formation of a young family forever united.

Ever since Iris, a French-Congolese woman, left Montreal, she has nurtured her relationship with Gabriela through voice messages. In this film, her voice gives hints of a return that exists only through the gaze of director Gabriela’s camera. Exploring the boundaries of documentary language the film conveys us to a dreamlike non-place, where the form of a faceless woman intermingles with the fluidity of waterscapes, of clouds and wind.

Reynold is dying from stomach cancer. Gradually unable to eat normally due to his condition, he resigns himself to starving to death. Grim memories surface of how he had cheated starvation once before as a prisoner in Fort-Dimanche Prison. The last meals that he can still eat provide an opportunity to share these memories with his daughter Vanessa, who he has not seen for 20 years.
